How we verify · In plain words

Every fact here was read on the state's own pages. If we could not confirm it there, we print nothing.

Deadlines and fees decide real money, so this page explains exactly where each answer comes from — and what we do when a state does not publish a clear figure.

The method, step by step

For each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia, we read the Secretary of State, corporations division, or tax authority pages that govern LLC reports, plus the statute where the page points to one. Roundups and filing-service blogs were used only to find the official page, never as the source of a printed fact.

The no-guessing rule

Late fees are the weak spot in most deadline lists: many states publish the deadline and the filing fee clearly, but the exact late penalty is buried or not published at all. On this site, a late-fee figure is printed only when it was confirmed on the state's own pages. For the states where it was not confirmed, the checker says plainly that a late fee applies and the exact amount is on the state's filing page. No number is ever estimated, averaged, or copied from another website. One figure carries its own warning where it belongs: California's $250 penalty is assessed through the Franchise Tax Board, and the California page says so.

The traps we check by name

Keeping it current

Every verdict is stamped "Rules checked October 2026." We re-read the state pages every quarter and re-stamp the site after each check. If a state changes a deadline or a fee between checks, the state's own filing page is always the final word — each state page here names its source so you can confirm in one click-through.
